We are optimistic that the worst of COVID is past and the coming summer will be fantastic. Let’s hope the weather is as good as last year!
We have used the lockdown to upgrade a lot of this charming building, including a big improvement to the bar rooms, re-instating the fireplace (with logburner) in the large lounge, adding some fine antique furniture..

We are only serving Sunday Roasts this lunch time (until they sell out) - everyone is welcome. This evening we are only able to serve food to residents, although non-residents are more than welcome to join us for drinks. Due to the dreaded Ping we are, like many places, short staffed so please be patient with us whilst we are all trying our hardest. Anyone want a job?

We are very short of staff but we will be open for lunch and evening meals. Our menu will be shortened and we may not be able to take very many food orders, so it is first come, first served. We are trying our best, but the dreaded “Ping” has struck over half of our staff! Anyone want a job?

The sun is coming out, schools are off, the scenery is magnificent, and the traffic jams are impressive as well. Everywhere is going to get very busy. Our large beer garden is waiting... Just have a little thought for all the hard-working staff in retail and hospitality, dealing with the everyday stresses of Covid and the large numbers of customers. Like many places, we are a bit short staffed, having suffered the dreaded "ping", and Brexit doesn't help either.... Surprise, surprise no foreign staff around, after they were told they were not welcome.

Because of a severe staff shortage we are unable to take many table bookings over the next few days. Please do email any requests but if we do not reply we do not have space. Sorry, we are too short staffed to answer the phone most of the time. Feel free to blame Covid (10 days isolations have struck us!) and Brexit (where have all the foreign staff gone? Home, cos we told them we didn't like them....)

The weather is turning very Cumbrian tomorrow, and we reckon wet and windy weather and 8C is not ideal beer garden conditions. So it is with regret that no food and drink will be served on Monday. Should be back to normal on Tuesday.

At last, something to feel positive about. The weather is warming up, the daffodils are emerging and most importantly, you will soon be able to buy a proper pint and travel beyond the end of your garden path. We are really looking forward to welcoming you back. Bookings are coming in fast now, including for our unique room-only offer from 12th April, and our B&B rooms are filling up for 17th May and beyond. We expect to be full right through the year now, so don't miss out, and make sure you book. See you soon!
