Badgers
YES, REALLY, We have BADGERS!!
In the grounds live a colony of badgers, and we feed them every night at dusk. As long as you are quiet, you can get quite close to them. In summer quite a big group can emerge, including the young ones for the first time. If you are patient you are almost guaranteed to see them. But just in case you miss them, there is a stuffed one in the bar…
The best time of year to see them is from April to October, when sometimes 5 or 6 can be seen. Over the winter they keep a low profile, and though 1 or 2 will come out, you will be lucky to see them as they don’t stay around for long.
As featured on BBC2 September 2021: Badger Bar on the telly, filmed as part of a road trip by wildlife presenter Chris Packham and his daughter. The bar looks very quiet because they had to wait until 2am for the badgers to come out. Our cheeky furry friends knew something was up and made everyone wait.

Our live “Badgercam” can be seen below. But you’re far better wandering along to see us and enjoying a meal in our bar then going to see them for yourselves. Many thanks to Cumbria Wildlife Trust for helping to set this up. Here is their website http://www.cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk/wildlife/badger-web-cam
