Hot & Sunny
Not often we can say that here, but it is glorious at the moment. The Lake District is stunning! Stroll on the lake shore path then relax in our lovely beer garden with a cold drink or ice cream.

Another lovely stay at the Glen Rothay, this time with our 7 month old baby. Very happy to report that the baby monitor worked in the bar where there were lovely local ales and fabulous food a’plenty! Spa passes made inclement weather unnoticeable, soft play at Langdale spa too. Lovely location on the edge of Rydal with nice walks to Ambleside and Grasmere. Really can’t fault it. Would definitely recommend a stay here. Thanks for a very enjoyable break!

We stopped in the Glen Rothay and had a wonderful time. The food we received was so good that we decided to eat here again on the second night. The food choice was excellent in the hotel dining room which was very relaxing as was our huge room complete with four poster bed. There is ample parking space outside, the staff are very helpful and the hotel is ideally situated to visit many of the nearby attractions of the Lake District and surrounding areas.
All in all if you want to escape for a mini break this could be just the answer and I would definitely go again.

We have never stayed anywhere so relaxing and charming. The room, Kentmere, was huge and had everything, including a large separate bathroom, with both bath and shower separate.
The food was beautiful and the portions plenty. There was a choice of cooked breakfasts each morning as well as cereal and toast.
We have never experienced such helpful, pleasant, happy staff. They did everything to make our stay both enjoyable and relaxed, especially Caroline, any request we made, no matter how big or small was met. We actually stayed an extra night and will definitely be returning. Our three nights left us thoroughly refreshed and rejuvenated.

We stopped for lunch here at the Badger Bar. Wonderful for walkers. It was quiet when we arrived, but soon filled up with people and dogs. The barmaid was chatty and pleasant. Perfect place to break for lunch.

We have just had a couple of nights at this unique Hotel… we had the largest room which was huge, full of charm and had everything we needed including a superb bathroom with a gorgeous roll top bath! The food is stunning, breakfast top quality (salmon blini’s are yum) and the evening meal was to die for! The team are very friendly and welcoming…. the rooms are spotlessly clean. We also had spa passes for Langdale Spa which we thoroughly enjoyed. If you want a break that is quirky, cosy, satisfying (esp…the food and ales) and filled with great memories - chose this charming hotel.

The location is great - just above Rydal Water and very close to walking tracks through from Rydal to Grasmere and Ambleside.
We had a huge four poster bed room with the largest (and warmest) bathroom you have ever seen!
The food at every meal we had in the restaurant was delicious and the Salmon breakfast is lovely and so nicely presented you want to photograph it rather than eat it!
The badger feeding every night is a new experience and the young barman James (just kidding Jay!!!!) has fantastic knowledge of real ales.
Real family feel to the hotel and bar, excellent food and a great location.

The staff were really friendly, the food was plentiful and of good quality. They also served a good variety of real ales. The location is stunning, the rooms were big and there was a real sense of being in a listed building dating back to the 17th century. Then on top of all this there was the badgers - fed nightly at 8.45p.m. A must see!

On arrival we had a warm welcome and had a table booked for evening meal in the restaurant. We stayed at the best room in the hotel - Kentmere which was palatial in size with massive windows overlooking the road and Rydal Water beyond.

From the moment we walked through the door the staff couldn’t do enough for us. They were all very friendly. Our room was large and warm with a magnificent bath with plenty of hot water. Our evening meal was excellent - the bruschetta is to die for. We had three courses and could hardly move. All portions were very generous. The breakfast was also excellent fresh and hot. I would most definitely stay here again.

We stayed here and absolutely loved it. The room was large and comfortable and the whole building just had character. The 3-course meal we had was superb, and we ate at the hotel again the night after because it was so good. There was an excellent selection of beers.

Glen Rothay Hotel is a special kind of retreat in the Lake District. Upstairs it has all the charm and interest of an English country house hotel whilst downstairs there is the lure of tasty well cooked food served in a cosy oak- panelled dining room, all without the pretensions and the fancy prices you find in some establishments. Instead you will find a very warm welcome from attentive, charming staff. Our room, number One, was of magnificent proportions with fantastic floor to ceiling windows through which light flooded in throughout the day.

We had a wonderful stay: the staff were lovely, the food was lovely and the room was lovely. We had a suite with an enormous French window opening out on to a grassy bank with trees, which you could step out of and sit in chairs provided there. We also enjoyed cool drinks in the pretty beer garden in the sunshine. The location is beautiful, with a gorgeous walk alongside Rydal water directly opposite the hotel. To top it all, we had the privilege of watching the badgers come out to feed in the evenings, a matter of feet away from us. We have already booked to come back!

Just returned from a two night stay at the Glen Rothay and we had a fantastic time - Thank you to all the staff who made our stay enjoyable. We had the Kentmere room and it was lovely, cosy with a lot of character.
It was lovely to relax in the huge bay window with the sun beating through watching the deer in the beer garden.
We will definitely be back.

Hotel was set in stunning scenery between Ambleside & Grasmere with lots of great walks. Friendly & relaxing atmosphere. Our room, Buttermere, was warm & cosy with a huge comfortable bed. The bathroom was spotless.
