Christmas & New Year at the Glen Rothay

Enjoy a picture perfect Christmas in the heart of the Lake District. With roaring log fires in the bar and someone else doing all the cooking and washing up, all you have to do is relax in the stunning surroundings. There is a good chance of snow on the high fells, and the certainty of mulled wine on the bar. No formality here, just a friendly and laid back country inn atmosphere. Go on bracing walks or do nothing except over-indulge, its all fine by us.

3 night seasonal packages

Christmas: arrive 2pm on the 24^th, leave 11am on the 27^th

Inbetwixt: arrive 2pm on the 27^th, leave 11am on the 30^th

New Year: arrive 2pm on the 30^th, leave 11am on January 2nd

Christmas Package (3 nights)

Arrive from 2pm on Christmas Eve and get in the mood with mince pies and a glass of sherry

Christmas Eve buffet from 6pm

A selection of cured and smoked meats and seafood

Variety of salads plus olives and condiments

Hungarian Goulash, seafood Paella, wild mushroom risotto

Mincemeat cheese cake, sherry and cranberry trifle, mandarin cake with chocolate sauce

Christmas Day

Indulge in our fine Cumberland breakfast with the addition of pastries and croissants, and a complimentary glass of Prosecco. A little stroll is then recommended, to build up a healthy appetite for the rather large meal that follows…

Christmas Dinner at 3pm

The main event is a select affair, with only residents dining in the dining room.

Pan fried pigeon breast with puy lentils and game crisps

Melon rose with mixed berries and coulis

Beef Wellington with wild mushroom jus and spinach

Turkey fillet steak with all the trimmings

Salmon fillet Wellington, spinach and cream cheese, buerre blanc sauce and tomato concasse

Beef tomato and buffalo mozzarella eggplant

All served with seasonal vegetables, sprouts, Yorkshire pudding and pigs in blankets

This is very simple. Three nights B&B

Arriving from 2pm on the 27^th, departing 11am on the 30^th

Our bar will be open as normal for food and drink.

New Year Package (3 nights)

Arrive from 2pm on Tuesday 30^th for a welcome glass of sherry and a mince pie, if you’re not sick of them yet.

The night before buffet from 6pm

New Years’ Eve

A big Cumberland breakfast with the addition of Danish pastries and croissants, and a complimentary glass of Prosecco, then you may do as you please until the big night…

New Years Eve Dinner at 8pm

Barbary duck breast with braised cabbage, fondant potatoes, ratatouille, plum sauce

Cream-cheese and leek roulade, béchamel sauce and side salad garnish

All mains served with stir fry vegetables and carrot puree

Hot apple tart with crème anglaise sauce or ice cream

White chocolate strawberry delice, raspberry coulis, fresh berries and a hint of basil

Gourmet cheese board with a selection of English and French cheeses, artisan biscuits and fruit

Mince pies tea and coffee

The Inn will be open for yourselves as well as non-residents to enjoy a convivial end to the year. The log fires will be burning and the fairy lights twinkling as the clock ticks down to midnight. No rowdy entertainment, just a traditional Inn full of merry customers.

January 1st

We won’t make you get up early for your breakfast after the night before.

A two course lunchtime or evening meal from our bar menu.

January 2^nd

Go on, you can manage another breakfast..

Depart 11am, back to normality….sorry.
